This weekend, the Formula 3 Euro Series drivers will experience
their season highlight. Just one week after the street race
on Nuremberg’s Norisring, the young guns will race in
the support programme of the French Formula 1 Grand Prix,
held at Magny-Cours. Everybody will be extremely motivated
as the young guns are keen on proving their skills in front
of the eyes of the Formula 1 Team Principals to put themselves
forward for a racing seat at the pinnacle of motor racing.
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) travels to
Magny-Cours as championship leader, with the runner-up, France’s
Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3), following six points behind.
In the meantime, however, Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule
3) also has become a factor in the battle for the title in
the world’s most competitive young-gun series. Past
weekend, the German who prevailed in the A1 Grand Prix Series,
this winter, celebrated his maiden Formula Euro Series win,
at the Norisring.
Apart from the established F3 drivers, the rookies also successfully
demonstrate their talent and skills. Italian Edoardo Mortara
(Signature-Plus) already won a race, at Brands Hatch. Tom
Dillmann (ASM Formule 3) secured a podium finish, at the Norisring
and his French compatriot, Franck Mailleux (Manor Motorsport)
succeeded in finishing third in the first Formula 3 Euro Series
race of the season, at Hockenheim.
And there will be two guest drivers contesting the Magny-Cours
rounds: Esteban Guerrieri and Michael Devaney (both Ultimate
Motorsport). The two young racing drivers will both race Mygale
Chassis’ equipped with Mercedes engines. For Argentinean
Guerrieri who finished fourth in the 2006 Formula 3 Euro Series
Championship, the appearance at Magny-Cours represents his
comeback on the grid of the series.
Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3): “The
circuit of Magny-Cours is a diversified one as it features
both fast and slow sections. Unfortunately, overtaking is
virtually impossible, there. It’s very special for us
drivers to have the chance of racing in the Formula 1 support
programme. Quite obviously, we want to give our very best,
in front of the F1 teams. It’s my weekend goal to finally
secure my maiden pole position. And then, I want to try to
score as many points as possible, in the two races, and take
the championship lead, this way.”
The Formula 3 Euro Series is covered live or re-live in 17
countries. Furthermore, Formula 3 Euro Series race résumés
are broadcasted in numerous countries.
