Battle Buemi – Grosjean to be continued at the Norisring

Track length: 2.300 kilometres
Lap record: 0:49.035 min / Adrian Sutil 2005
Distance: 48 laps
Winners 2006: Paul di Resta / Giedo van der Garde

This weekend, at Nuremberg’s Norisring, the battle between Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) and Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3) will enter its next round. With four races contested, Switzerland’s Buemi holds the Formula 3 Euro Series Championship lead but his French rival Grosjean has got just two points less on his tally. At the same time, third placed Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3) is waiting for his chance of securing his maiden Formula 3 Euro Series win.

To date, Romain Grosjean secured two wins, while Sébastien Buemi and Italian rookie Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus) have won one race each. With his surprising win clinched at Brands Hatch, Mortara also took the lead in the Formula 3 Euro Series rookie rankings.
With his two podium finishes secured in the third and fourth rounds, Japanese Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3) also returned back onto the road to success. The best rookie of the 2006 season has ten points on his tally, just as many as Edoardo Mortara. Last year, Kobayashi finished runner-up in the Sunday race at the Norisring. No other driver contesting the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series season did better, in 2006.

The Nuremberg race weekend is regarded as the season highlight of German motor racing. The track is just 2.3 kilometres long and features numerous bumps. The paddock is located right at the ‘Dutzendteich’, thus providing the Norisring with its unique ambience.

Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport): “On paper, the Norisring may look easy – but it isn’t. You have to perfectly hit the few braking spots and at the same time it’s vital to successfully corner the chicane with relatively limited downforce. After all, all the cars will contest the event with a low-downforce setup, due to the long straights. A good qualifying result will be important but isn’t crucial as overtaking is possible in all the three braking zones of the circuit. I travel to Nuremberg with the goal to win the races and defend my championship lead.”
