Maiden victory for Edoardo Mortara at Brands Hatch
Track temperature: 27.0 º C
Air temperature: 20.3 º C
Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus) is the winner of the fourth
season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series at the only 1.929
kilometres long Brands Hatch Indy circuit. Sébastien
Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) occupied second place ahead
of Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3). This allowed the 18-year
old Swiss to claim back the lead in the championship standings
of the Formula 3 Euro Series from Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule
3). The Frenchman retired due to a collision right after the
start.
Mortara led all the way from lights to flag to win what was
only his fourth race in the Formula 3 Euro Series. This made
him the first-ever Italian driver to win a round of the world’s
toughest junior racing series. Moreover, the 20-year old is
the first rookie driver to claim an outright race win this
season.
At the tiny track in Kent county, Kobayashi had a good start,
which helped him score his second podium finish of the weekend.
Having started sixth, he already was third going into the
first corner and then retained his position.
Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus): “Being on the top
step of the podium is a great feeling. It is not only my first
victory in Formula 3, but my maiden single seater win in general.
Usually, I am quite nervous at the start, but this time it
wasn’t that bad. My start was really good and that was
the key to victory.”
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport): “I
had a normal race without anything spectacular happening.
At the start, I couldn’t find a way past Mortara and
I just waited for him to make a mistake, but he didn’t.
I am looking forward to going to the Norisring as the leader
in the championship.”
Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3): “I had a fantastic
start and moved right up into third place. As overtaking is
neigh impossible here, I am very happy with my result.“
