Start into the Formula 3 Euro Series season’s second half

Track length: 4.307 kilometres
Lap record: 1:32.866 min / Lewis Hamilton 2005
Distance: 26 laps
Winners 2006: Paul di Resta / Charlie Kimball

This weekend, the rounds held at Zandvoort, Netherlands, will represent the kick-off of the second half of the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series season. The Dutch 4.307-kilometre circuit will be the venue of rounds eleven and twelve. Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3) wants to defend his championship lead, in the two races held at the dune circuit located at the North Sea shore. He travels to the Netherlands with a five-point lead over the runner-up, Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport). Just two weeks ago, at Mugello, Grosjean replaced the Swiss as championship leader.

In 2006, both drivers delivered in fine style, in the two Formula 3 Euro Series rounds at Zandvoort. 21-year old Grosjean finished fourth in the Saturday round and on Sunday, Buemi battled his way up from 25th grid position to finish eighth.

In the BP Ultimate Masters of Formula 3 that also was held at Zandvoort, last year, Switzerland’s 18-year old Swiss Sébastien Buemi secured third position, with his French rival Romain Grosjean coming fifth, in his maiden Masters appearance.

For Renger van der Zande (Prema Powerteam) and Yelmer Buurman (Manor Motorsport) in particular, the eleventh and twelfth rounds of the season will be something special. After all, they are going to contest their home races, at Zandvoort. Both aim to securing podium finishes.

Renger van der Zande (Prema Powerteam): “Two weeks ago, at Mugello, my Italian squad, Prema Powerteam, contested their home races and now, I may look forward to my home event. I’m extremely motivated as a lot of friends and sponsors use to attend the Zandvoort events. Having witnessed the Formula 3 Masters at Zandvoort five times, I finally have got the chance of contesting a Formula 3 race here, myself. The track is really varied and features many different sections and turns. I already have contested several races, there. Hence, I know the circuit really well. I hope this will turn out to be a small advantage, for me.”

The Formula 3 Euro Series is covered live or re-live in 17 countries. Furthermore, Formula 3 Euro Series race résumés are broadcasted in numerous countries.
