Romain Grosjean on pole position for the first time

Track temperature: 32.5 º C
Air temperature: 31.1 º C

In a convincing manner, Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3, 1:41.485 min) claimed pole position for the ninth season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series at Mugello. At the 5.245 kilometres long circuit in Tuscany, he was 0.265 seconds faster than Tom Dillmann (ASM Formule 3, 1:41.750 min), who also was the best-placed rookie driver in the 23-strong field. Points leader, Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport, 1:42.152 min) occupied sixth place and will thus be starting from the sixth row on the grid.

The ASM-duo of Grosjean and Dillmann was followed by Renger van der Zande (Prema Powerteam, 1:41.806 min). For the Dutchman, driving for the only team in the Formula 3 Euro Series, third place was the best qualifying result of his career in the Formula 3 Euro Series so far.
Euan Hankey (HS Technik, 1:43.056 min) had a decent debut. The Briton, who took part in his first-ever qualifying in the world’s strongest junior racing series, occupied 14th place.

Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule 3): “At last, my first pole position in the Formula 3 Euro Series. Yesterday, I was optimistic, in spite of ninth place in testing, because I knew what mistakes we were making. Today, the team gave me a great car.”

Tom Dillmann (ASM Formule 3): “I am improving race after race and I am becoming quicker all the time. I am happy, both with my continuous improvement and with my grid position on the front row.“

Renger van der Zande (Prema Powerteam): “When all teams and drivers are starting from scratch at a new track, we are among the front runners, too. We are getting there step by step. Here, we finally have the chance to achieve a decent result. I am especially happy for my team, as they are having a home round in Italy.”
