Winners 2006: not contested
Two weeks after the Formula 3 Euro Series appearance in the
support programme of the French Formula 1 Grand Prix, at Magny-Cours,
the 23 drivers will have to contest the season’s ninth
and tenth rounds, this weekend at Mugello. Championship leader
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport) from Aigle,
Switzerland, travels with a three-point lead over Romain Grosjean
(ASM Formule 3) to italy. The French is the only driver who
succeeded in winning more than just one race, in the season
to date.
Buemi, however, secured the championship lead by delivering
consistently. He scored points in seven of the eight rounds
contested so far and clinched two pole positions.
Still, Kamui Kobayashi (ASM Formule 3) and James Jakes (Manor
Motorsport) also must be regarded as title contenders. Both
drivers celebrated their first major Formula 3 Euro Series
successes of the season by winning a race each, at Magny-Cours.
With eight rounds contested, six different drivers have made
it to the 2007 Formula 3 Euro Series winners’ list,
with Dutchman Yelmer Buurman (Manor Motorsport) being the
only top-seven driver who hasn’t won a race, to date.
From the Mugello weekend, Austrian Team HS Technik is going
to enter a second driver. In addition to 19-year old Latvian
Harald Schlegelmilch, Briton Euan Hankey will also race an
HS Technik Dallara. In the past two years, the 20-year old
contested the Formula BMW UK Championship.
Edoardo Mortara (Signature-Plus): “Mugello
is a really beautiful circuit and – being more than
five kilometres long – a rather long one. It has been
incorporated into an undulating landscape and racing there
is true fun. I have fond memories of Mugello. Last year, I
contested my maiden car race, there, and made it to the podium
of both Formula Renault rounds right away. I’d love
to repeat this result, this year. I’m looking forward
to my home event and as usual I’m going to give my very
best.”
The Formula 3 Euro Series is covered live or re-live in 17
countries. Furthermore, Formula 3 Euro Series race résumés
are broadcasted in numerous countries.
