Air temperature: 14,4 º C
Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3, 1:22.911 min) secured
himself the first pole position in his career in the Formula
3 Euro Series. At the 3.629 kilometres long Sprint circuit
of the Nürburgring, the winner of the “Masters
of Formula 3” was 0.277 seconds faster than Edoardo
Piscopo (Mücke Motorsport, 1:23.188 min). 18-year old
Swiss Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport, 1:23.308
min) will be starting from third place into Saturday’s
13th season round of the Formula 3 Euro Series. Maximilian
Götz (R.C. Motorsport, 1:23.885 min) set the eighth fastest
lap time upon the debut of the new Volkswagen engine in the
Formula 3 Euro Series.
Hülkenberg dominated the entire session and was in front
for most of the time. His team mate Romain Grosjean (ASM Formule
3, 1:23.362 min), who came to the Eifel as the points leader,
occupies fifth place on the grid behind Briton James Jakes
(Manor Motorsport, 1:23.326 min) and ahead of the surprisingly
strong Russian Sergey Afanasiev (HBR Motorsport, 1:23.551
min).
Nico Hülkenberg (ASM Formule 3): “Great,
my maiden pole position in the Formula 3 Euro Series. Qualifying
was really fun. Now, I want to turn this first grid position
into a good race result tomorrow.”
Edoardo Piscopo (Mücke Motorsport):
“I am really happy with my second place. Since Zolder,
I am really feeling comfortable in the car and it is getting
better all the time. Now, I hope that I can score my first
points on Saturday.”
Sébastien Buemi (Mücke Motorsport):
“It was too cold and I had problems getting the tyres
to the right temperature. It is important for me to finish
ahead of Romain Grosjean in tomorrow’s race, because
that will allow me to make up some points on him in the overall
standings.”
