A
TOP TEN RACE FOR ALEX HOFMANN
An excellent race for ALEX HOFMANN, but without any happy
ending. From the 17th position on the grid, the German rider
showed what he’s able to do, overtaking first tamada
and then Gibernau, both experienced riders with a high-quality
technical package, and reaching the tenth place that actually
meant the Top Ten. Unfortunately, a crash at three corners
from the arrival made all the dreams of the German rider vanish,
even if he managed to arrived in 14th position. With this
result, he still obtains two more points for the Championship
general classification even if he was deserving a lot more
today. JOSE LUIS CARDOSO passed under the chequered flag in
16th, nearly getting into the points’ area. The Spanish
rider is already thinking about the next race that will be
on the 20th August at Brno in Czech Republic. The MotoGP World
Championship is now stopping for the usual summer break, about
three weeks long, every Team does deserve after the tour de
force of the last two months.
ALEX HOFMANN #66 (14th): “It has been
a beautiful race, but the last lap will remain one of the
most horrible of my whole career. I had a good start, passing
various riders on the outside. Tamada went back in front of
me, but he hadn’t got the right rhythm to reach the
riders that were preceding us and I lose much time behind
him. It has been very difficult to pass him but then I went
away and reached Gibernau, overtaking him as well. I had a
very good feeling with my bike and, even if I nearly was off-limit,
I always rode with a good rhythm and it has been a lot of
fun to overtake riders that actually were unreachable until
today. For me, this race has been the best of the season about
the tires as well. I can’t explain my crash in the last
lap very well, I’m not sure of what happened, I lose
the front in the left corner after the Corkscrew, maybe because
of the precarious conditions of the track. Errare humanum
est and I’m really disappointed”.
JOSE LUIS CARDOSO #30 (16th): “At
the beginning of the race, I managed to have a satisfying
rhythm but after seven or eight laps, the motorcycle began
to slide a little bit and I retrograded. It has been a very
difficult race, because of the very high temperatures but
also psychologically as making a race alone and in these positions
is quite boring. Now I want to take advantage of the summer
break at the maximum, to relax and get ready for the race
in Brno, a circuit I really like a lot and that I know very
well, having very recent references too as I raced there last
season in the Suoerbike class. I would like to thank my Team
for the great work they did during the whole weekend”.
LUIS D’ANTIN (Team Manager): “Today
HOFMANN made a great race, the best of the whole season, he
really deserved to end the race in the Top Ten. Unfortunately,
he committed an error and paid it very much. These are the
races. I think that today’s result is hopeful, and our
Team won’t surely stop to fight right now. This has
also been the first time the tires behaved in a reasonable
way”.
