February Molten Awards
Molten Player of the Month: Tony Dorsey
Tony Dorsey has picked up his second award in a matter of
days after being named as the Molten Player of the Month for
February, adding to the BBL Trophy winners' medal that he
picked up as the Guildford Heat beat the Newcastle Eagles
86-79 live on Setanta Sports on Sunday.
The five-time BBL All-Star, who picked up his seventh piece
of silverware at the weekend and has twice been BBL Player
of the Season, averaged a massive 20.9 points, 9.1 rebounds,
and 3.4 assists during February. The 37-year-old posted four
double-doubles in the seven games that he played, the most
notable of which was 26 points and 12 rebounds in the 110-97
win against the Jelson Homes DMU Leicester Riders at The Spectrum
on 20th February.
Dorsey and the Heat went 6-1 during the month as they continued
their BBL Championship title challenge. He also had 28 points,
6 rebounds, and 6 assists against title rivals the Marshall
MK Lions, and 26 points, 11 rebounds, and 7 assists when the
Heat travelled to the Everton Tigers on 8th February.
Dorsey, who has more career points (5,512) in the BBL Championship
than any other current player, now looks forward to another
big month, starting with a trip to the PAWS London Capital
on Saturday (7.30pm tip-off). Later on in March, the Heat
host the Newcastle Eagles in a huge top-of-the-table clash
on Sunday 23rd March.
Molten Coach of the Month: Fabulous Flournoy
The Head Coach of the league-leading Newcastle Eagles, Fab
Flournoy, has won the Molten Coach of the Month award for
February after going a perfect 7-0.
He wins the award for the second time this season, after
also going unbeaten (6-0) during October.
The Eagles won all six of their games in the BBL Championship,
keeping them at the top of the table, and they also won their
BBL Trophy semi-final at the start of the month, although
lost out in the final to the Guildford Heat on the first Sunday
in March.
Amongst the significant wins in the month of February for
Flournoy and the Eagles were a 97-85 defeat of the Everton
Tigers, and former player Richard Midgley, on 22nd February,
and an 87-78 win over another top-four contender, the Marshall
MK Lions, on the final day of the month. Wins against Worcester,
Cheshire, Birmingham, and London completed the month's league
fixtures. The biggest win of the month came in the Midlands
as they beat the Birmingham Panthers by 59-104.
Player/coach Flournoy also put in a particularly good performance
on the court against the Tigers as he led all scorers with
22 points.
Looking to bounce back from their second Trophy Final defeat
in consecutive seasons, Flournoy prepares his team to face
their biggest rivals, the SAMG Verve Scottish Rocks, on Friday,
with three massive games to finish the month of March: they
host the second-placed Kularoos Plymouth Raiders on the 21st,
before visiting the Heat, and then hosting the Lions.
