Injury Problems for BBL's Top Two Scorers
The Worcester Wolves go into Wednesday's game against the
Guildford Heat, live on Setanta Sports 1 (7.30pm), with a
worrying injury list.
After securing their play off place with Friday's win against
the Marshall MK Lions, the Wolves have potentially paid a
heavy price against the league's most physical side.
The BBL's leading scorer James Life (hand), and second leading
scorer Anthony Paez (ankle), along with point guard Chuck
Evans (thigh), are all receiving treatment following injuries
sustained in the weekend's games.
Paez and Life went for X-rays on Monday to assess the extent
of the damage and Evans, who played little part in the defeat
against Sheffield on Sunday, was resting in the hope of some
improvement.
All three injuries were suffered as the Wolves beat the Lions
75-97 on Friday, yet worsened in the 69-99 defeat to the Sharks
on Sunday.
The Wolves are currently sitting in eighth place, with the
prospect of a trip to the newly-crowned BBL Champions, Newcastle,
in the BBL Championship Playoff quarter-finals. That will
be the case unless they can finish the season strongly and
move up into sixth or seventh place.
Head coach Skouson Harker made the following comments,
"We will do everything we can to try and get all three
players on the floor if they are fit.
"However, we have the remainder of the regular season
and the play-offs to consider and I will be taking advice
from the excellent sports therapy team that we have within
the club. At the moment they all have a 50 - 50 chance of
making the game"
The good news for the Wolves was that big Slovakian Ivan
Brosko got through the game unscathed and contributed with
13 points. Harker added,
"Ivan looked a little rusty but the best way to get
in game shape is to play minutes and he did that and got better
as the game went on"
The Wolves travel to the Guildford Heat on Wednesday for
a game that can be seen live on Setanta Sports 1 from 7.30pm.
