Great Britain Competes In European Men's Fast Pitch Championships
The Great Britain Men’s Fastpitch team headed to Holland
to compete in the European Championships during the week of
27 June. The team had overwhelming victories in the first
two rounds of the tourney as they beat Croatia 10-0 and then
Slovakia 20-0. Confident after topping the league the Great
Britain squad then faced Belgium. The Belgium team proved
tougher than the previous opponents but they still fell to
the GB team 3-2. Great Britain next faced the Czech Republic
and put their undefeated record to the test. The Czech Republic
proved too much for Great Britain and they lost by a score
of 19-1.
After the big loss to the Czechs, GB kept moving and went
on to defeat the Israeli team 5-0. This, however, would prove
to be the last victory for Great Britain in the tournament
as they went on to lose to Denmark 11-3 and Holland 11-0.
After round robin play was over the Great Britain team had
a 4-3 record and secured a fourth place finish. Pitcher Steve
Tau won the Best Pitcher award for the tournament with a 1.81
Earned Run Average.
