2007 Superstock 1000 FIM Cup

Round 10, Vallelunga, Italy

Circuit: 4.110 kms. Crowd: 80,000 (weekend) Conditions: Dry, mostly sunny 16C.

DISAPPOINTMENT FOR XAVI.
Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavier Simeon was pushed off-line on the opening lap of today’s tenth round Superstock 1000 FIM Cup race at Vallelunga and lost touch with the leaders as a result. He tried to fight back into contention but, at the end of the 13-lap race, he was only able to get back into fifth place. Claudio Corti (Yamaha) won the race, with Niccolo Canepa (Ducati) second, Ayrton Badovini (MV) third and Brendan Roberts (Ducati) fourth. Today’s result means that Xavi is now in third place in the championship, with just one round remaining. He is eight points behind series leader Matteo Baiocco (Yamaha) and seven points behind second-placed Canepa.

Xavi - 5th
I am very, very disappointed today because I felt that I could’ve finished on the podium for sure - and even maybe have won the race. The last two days had gone very well and I was confident of a good result today. But everything changed on lap one, when somebody touched me and pushed me off-line. I recovered, but it cost me time and the leading group had got away from me. I pushed as hard as I could but I just couldn’t get into the top three. I will now go to Magny-Cours knowing that only a win will do if I am to have any chance at all. If I win the race and my rivals make mistakes, who knows what will happen? I have nothing to lose, so I’ll be going for a win or bust!
