2007 Suzuki GSX-R European Cup
Round 6, Eurospeedway Lausitz
Circuit: 4.265 kms. Weather: Damp
Final qualifying, Saturday 8th September
JONCHIERE QUICKEST IN THE WET, BUT LAMMERT IS ON
POLE.
Frenchman Emeric Jonchiere was the quickest rider in the Suzuki
GSX-R Cup qualifying this afternoon, but German rider Dominic
Lammert will start from pole position thanks to his quick
lap set in the dry yesterday. Jonchiere was in a class of
his own today, finishing with a lap of 2:05.868, a staggering
five seconds faster then his nearest rival!
Because of the wet conditions today, no rider was able to
improve on, or even get near, yesterday’s lap times
and so the grid positions are taken from yesterday. That means
Lammert is on pole, with Patric Muff second, Steven Michels
third and Ismael Ortega fourth.
Emeric Jonchiere
I like this track because it is great fun to go fast round
fast corners. But in the rain, you have to be careful because
the grip varies so much. It was very difficult out there today
and it was very, very slippery, so I was happy to be the quickest
rider. But I will be starting the race from the third row,
because of yesterday’s lap times, and if it’s
wet, it’s going to be difficult following the other
riders because of the spray they will throw up. So I need
to make a good start and try and be with the front runners
right from the beginning of the race. Although, I was quickest
today in the wet, I think we’d all prefer a dry race.
If it is wet, then I think that there are going to be many
crashes and I do not want to be one of them!
