2007 Superstock 1000 Championship
Round 1, Europe, Donington Park, UK
Friday qualifying, 30th March
Circuit: 4.023 km Conditions: Cold, damp 6 - 8 C.
DISAPPOINTMENT FOR XAVI
The miserable conditions did nothing to help Team Alstare
Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavier Simeon at the opening round
of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup at Donington today. The young
Belgian finished the day with only the fifteenth quickest
time and knows that tomorrow’s practice and qualifying
will be crucial if he is to have a good result on Sunday.
For Xavi a new bike to learn was one problem, but the wet
and greasy conditions for most of the day meant he couldn’t
push hard at all.
Michele Pirro (Yamaha) set the fastest lap of the day with
a time of 1:35.985, with Claudio Corti (Yamaha) second and
Xavier Van Keymeulen (Yamaha) third.
XAVIER - 15th, 1:38.262
I am getting used to this new bike but the difficult conditions
today made the job much harder. Also, I am learning the track,
so that’s two things to understand at the same time.
Today was all about putting in as many laps as possible and
trying to find a good set-up for my bike. I had a little rear
suspension problem in the afternoon and I didn’t want
to do anything silly so soon and crash, so I tried to ride
steadily and understand what was going on. I felt that I didn’t
ride to the best of my ability today and that’s something
that I will have to change for tomorrow.
