2007 Superstock 1000 FIM Cup

Round 1, Europe, Donington, GB

Circuit: 4.023 kms. Crowd: 51,000 (3-day). Conditions: Dry, sunny/cloudy 9-13C

SUPER SEVENTH FOR XAVI!
Despite starting in nineteenth place on the grid, Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavier Simeon finished in seventh place in the first round of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup at Donington today. The race took place in mostly sunny, but very cold , conditions, with Xavi making a superb start when the lights turned to green. Amazingly he was in eighth place at the end of lap one, but there was too much traffic for him to fight through to be able to advance much further then seventh in the short eight lap race. The race itself was won by Nicola Canepa (DucatI), with Claudio Corti (Yamaha) second and Didier Van Keymeulen (Yamaha) third.

XAVI - 7th,
I suppose I should be happy with seventh, considering my starting position on the grid. I suppose I feel a bit frustrated because if I had been able to qualify higher then I might have been able to challenge for a podium place. Starting from nineteenth was not how I envisaged my debut on this class and I really wanted to get the season off to a flying start. If the weather had been better on the first day and I hadn’t had a tyre problem on day two, things might have been quite different. But that’s racing and I have to put today behind me and concentrate on the next race in Valencia. I hope that my qualifying goes a lot better there and I can finish on the podium.
