XAVIER TAKES WIN NUMBER FOUR IN SUPERB FASHION.
Team Alstare suzuki Corona Extra rider Xavier Simeon notched
up his fourth win of the season at Brands Hatch today, but
had to use all his guile and cunning to do so. Throughout
the 12-lap race he was locked in a titanic battle with Italian
rider Nicola Canepa (Ducati), with the lead changing hands
several times. But, four laps from the end, Xavier made his
move by diving through on the inside of Canepa on the approach
to Druids. Canepa attacked immediately, but Xavier skilfully
managed to stay ahead, shutting the door every time it looked
as if the Italian would force his way through. In the end,
Xavier took the chequered flag, two tenths of a second ahead
of Canepa, with Andrea Antonelli (Honda) third.
XAVIER - 1st
That was a very tough race and I am so happy to have won it.
There wasn’t a lot of grip from the rear after a few
laps but it was the same for everybody. When Canepa took the
lead, his rhythm was not so good - and he was going slower
then I wanted, so I had to overtake him. Once I was in front,
there was no way I was going to let him pass me again and
I did everything I needed to do to make sure he didn’t.
I want to thank my team because they have worked so hard over
the weekend, especially on the first day when I had an engine
problem. It’s thanks to them that I was able to win
again today.
